website news, september 2008
September 19, 2008 – 10:46 amFirst things first, I’m sorry the site hasn’t been updated often lately, a lightening strike hit my house last week (I have a lightning rod), and fried my adsl modem. I was lucky the rest of my hardware survived and will be sure to invest in surge protectors.
Well, there are still more positive news…
I have ordered an eee box. I went to a few stores but they already sold out the little machine, it seems Asus’ new nettop is facing a high demand in many countries.
I hope to provide interesting software and OS reviews in the future.
Here’s a short summary of recently announced shiny netbooks.
Toshiba NB100

Liliputing reported the entry of Toshiba on the netbook market, with an Atom-based configuration, with 1GB of RAM, an 8.9″ screen, a 120GB hard drive. It will come with Ubuntu Linux or Windows XP as the operating system. The announced price is $475. More infos to come soon.
Packard Bell Dot

Packard Bell is issuing an Acer Aspire One clone, the DOT. Same Jazz here, an Atom based computer with 1GB, an 8.9″ display, a 160GB hard drive, windows XP, and a price od 399€ (about $567). I’m not a big fan of integrating such a huge hard disk in a mobile device. It isn’t necessary, inflates the price, and is more sensible to vibrations. The Aspire One seems to be a much better bargain.
Thanks to Blogeee for the news (in French).
