Google announced a new operating system designed for netbooks: the Google Chrome Operating System. The  system will be based on Google Chrome, running on top of a linux kernel, compiled for ARM and x386 processors.

The new OS is a being created for heavy users of web applications. It will boot in a just few seconds and we will be able write emails, surf, edit documents, without the hassle of waiting 2 and a half minutes for some bloated OS.

It is expected to be released in the second half of 2010. Combining an inexpensive netbook with secure, fast and powerful web applications is a brilliant idea. I hope Google Wave will be released by then, we will have very powerful communication and collaboration tools.
