eee pc 901 specs

With the EEE PC 900 coming out on the market, a new model has appeared on Asustek’s low-cost umpc line: the eee pc 901.

The major improvement the 901 will bring over the 900 is the processor. The Intel Atom CPU will replace Celeron-M, providing better performances, more battery life - a key factor for an ultramobile use.

It was officially announced that the eee pc 901 will not integrate a wimax module, since Asus managers have concluded that the wimax technology will not reach maturity until the end of 2008 and will add a significant cost percentage. An optional Wimax module might be offered though.

On the other hand, the 901 will integrate a bluetooth module. Bluetooth has been announced for the 900 but wasn’t integrated to the product in the end.

On the design side, the dimensions are the same as the 900, but some elements have been reallocated: the power cord is on the right side, and the kensington lock has been moved to the left side. The RJ11 56k modem port has been expelled.

The SDHC port has been enlarged and will be able to handle MMC memory cards.

The keyboard has larger keys, and seems to be more comfortable.

I find odd the timing of the announcement for the Asus EEE PC 901, right before the eee 900 goes on sale. If I were to buy an eee pc 900, I would certainly wait to see what the 901 has to offer.
