Asus introduced the eee pc 1000 series at the Computex 2008 show…

A few comments

The eee pc 1000H with Windows XP to be packing a mechanical hard disk. While this is not the best solution for mobility, it will allow more storage for the eee pc 1000H. The eee 1000 with Linux will have a shockproof 40GB solid state drive.

With such a size and weight, the eee pc 1000H is about 50% bigger than the initial eee pc 701, and qualifies more for the portable than ultraportable category.

A battery life going from 3h12mn to 5h has been announced for 1000H. The SSD bundled with the 1000, Linux version, will have a better battery life, going from 4h12mn to 7h.

The price hasn’t been disclosed yet, but with the MSI Wind beginning at $399 and the eee pc 901 announced at $649, Asustek will have to face serious competition.
