Dell Studio Hybrid desktops are out

Following the announcement of the Asus Eeebox and the MSI Wind PC, Dell has presented a new line of small and stylish desktop computers, the Studio Hybrid.

  • CPU: From Intel Core 2 Duo (at 2GHz), or Intel Pentium Dual Core (1.86GHz)
  • RAM: 3GB or 4GB of DDR2 memory, at 667MHz
  • Hard Disk: 160GB, 250GB, or 320GB 5400rpm SATA drive
  • Optical Drive: DVD+-RW
  • Graphic card: Intel GMA 3100 (integrated)
  • 1 Firewire and 3 USB ports at the back, 2 USB ports at the front.
  • Networking: Ethernet port
  • One HDMI and one S/P DIF connectors
  • A memory card reader at the front pannel
  • OS: Microsoft Windows Vista
  • Dimensions: 7″ x 8.26″ x 2.76″
  • Price: From $499 (about 318€)

Dell’s new computers are positionned as full blown Desktop systems, in contrast to Asus and MSI’s low cost upcoming offers.

The Studio Hybrid’s basic color is Slate Gray, but other shells (Emerald Green, Quartz Pink, etc) are available for a fee (10GBP in the UK, about $20).

The new desktop is well conceived, I would just regret the (absence of) choice for the operating system. At twice the price of an eeebox or a wind PC, The Studio Hybrid could have been much more affordable.
