The CherryPal desktop is powered by a Freescale mobileGT processor, working at a 400MHz clock range. Freescale is an American manufacturer, that was born from Motorola’s desinvestment in semiconductors. The 400MHz CPU cannot be directly compared to an Intel or AMD solution, because it has a PowerPC 64bit architecture. It will serve basic needs without problems.
The storage of the Cherrypal is consisted of a 4GB solid state drive, and a 50GB online storage service is offered with the device.
On the applicative side, a linux operating system delivers a boot time of only 20 seconds. It comes with the OpenOffice suite, Mozilla Firefox web browser, an instant messaging software compatible with msn, google talk and much more.
On the multimedia side, the cherrypal desktop will bundle an iTunes compatible software, as well as a movie player, capable of playing divx movies, or online streaming.
One of the greatest archievements is a power consumption of only 2W! It means that, with an average office use, you will consume about 18kWh per year of electricity, or only $1.8 for a year. With the absence of mechanical parts and the energy efficient solution, this computer will be extremely quiet, and shock resistant.
The CherryPal desktop is a tiny, well thought device, at a very affordable price, ready to serve your basic needs out of the box.
