Asus Eee Videophone

Asus has developed an easy to use interface, running under Linux. The videophone being a standalone product, you won’t need a computer to make calls over the internet. Perfect for people frustrated with technology. The built in battery will allow 20mn of calls away from a power source.

The key features of the videophone are:

  • Free Skype to skype calls.
  • Skype out land-line calls. Skype has interesting unlimited land-line calling plans ($5.95/month for the U.S.)
  • Conference calls
  • Video calls

The Eee Videophone is an interesting device, but the launch price is highlighting a few missing features. The display is not a touchscreen, and 1.6kg is not very portable. With Fring, almost any smartphone can make skype calls and all of the Eee videophone’s functions can also be performed with an inexpensive second hand Eee PC 701.
