12 Jan 2009With wiideo center, you can stream your videos, music and pictures from your Eee PC, to a Nintendo Wii!
The Nintendo Wii has a lot of hidden potential, and a good selection homebrew software. The Homebrew Channel can boot GeexBox Linux and transform the Wii in a media center. The problem is that you have to modify the console, and Nintendo can block homebrew installation with new updates.
Wiideo Center is an opensource multimedia streaming center. When you run it on your netbook, you can view your videos from a Nintendo Wii, with the internet channel.

The Web interface is Wii Remote friendly, with big animated icons. You can browse through all of your hard disks, and choose a file for playback.
Wiideo Center supports divx, mp4, mp3, rmvb and flv video playback. You can also view a slideshow from your netbook’s pictures.

The internet radio service Finetune is implemented, so you will be able to search for your favourite artist, or a specific genre, and play the online radio. Since the interface is tabbed, you can listen to your MP3 music and view pictures at the same time.

If you are using a wifi connection from your Eee PC to your router, I would advise to keep the Eee PC close to the router, bandwidth can drop significantly with obstacles.
Wiideo Center is a brilliant opensource project, easy to use and packed with a great set of features. It should be possible to use it with a Sony PlayStation 3 the same way, with the internet browser.
