booting the eee box from a pendrive

October 15, 2008 – 3:04 am

We will see in this short guide how to boot the eee box from a pendrive.
The Eee box has a different way to boot from other drives, compared to the previous Eee PCs where you had to press ESC after powering on.
Asus’ user manual states that you have to press F8 to enter into the boot priority selection. It is true, but you will have to find the right moment by pressing the F8 repetitively.
There is an easier way to archieve that.

  1. At boot, or from the Express Gate, press the DEL key, to enter into BIOS setup.
  2. Under the Boot tab, choose Hard Disk Drives and press Enter.

  3. Select the first drive, and choose your pendrive. In my example, I have a Corsair Flash Voyager USB key.

  4. Press F10 to save and exit.

Your Eee Box will boot from the pendrive now. You don’t have to bother about resetting everything afterwards, the BIOS will detect if the pendrive is not present and boot from the hard disk drive.
