messed up xandros

March 31, 2008 – 3:14 am

That was bound to happen. I overdid it experimenting with the EEE’s default installation…

I installed some new drivers, KDE started issuing error messages, and at the next boot, scary scenes of a mutilated KDE.

Well, fortunately, Asus did implement a really easy restore mode. So if your Xandros system gets messed up, you just have to press F9 at boot (but be fast), and a recovery panel will appear:

xandros restore panel

Afterwards, choose Restore Factory Settings, and your system will be fresh as new.

I recommend you to create a USB or SD live system first, and use it to copy your precious documents, photos, profiles, etc, since restoring factory settings will format your user partition, and all your data will be lost.

  2. The restore factory settings does not work as expected at all times. Once I messed up with the .img thing and everytime I restore my eee, it uses that img. Then I was not able to roll it back and installed eeexubuntu.

  3. Thanks for the insight!
I have used it once and didn’t have problems, but you must be right: if the restore partition with the image is altered problems will occur.
    I went under eeepclos afterwards.

    Welcome Aldrin! ;)
