listen and record webradio on the eee pc
April 19, 2008 – 1:43 amI like to listen to radio while working. The webradio solution from Xandros didn’t suit me, so I needed to find a software working on the Asus EEE PC…
Webradio in the Xandros default interface is link to a website, so you can listen from your browser. Well, it requires registration and I value my privacy. Nobody has to log what I listen.
I found out a great solution working with the eee pc: installing the Xmms player, and streamtuner. You can do it from Synaptic (crtl+alt+t, and the command sudo Synaptic), with the right repositories.
XMMS is a music player with a winamp like skin.

Streamtuner provides many stations classified into tabs with various web radio streaming networks (Google Stations, Xiph, Shoutcast, etc). You can search for a specific station, a genre, and choose from the list. Clicking on Tune in will open Xmms and the music will start.

To record music (please check the legal issues in your country first) you just have to click on record. Streamripper will open and record your webradio into the MP3 format, in your Home folder. Streamripper will also name the files from the song titles, and separate the tunes.
Combined with a wifi wireless connection, this software solution will transform your eee pc into a portable jukebox.
I love my eee pc more and more everyday!
